Every Mother Counts Programme

We support the provision of prenatal care and attention to pregnant women in Bangladesh and The United States.

Over 303,000 women and girls die each year from causes related to pregnancy and childbirth. Nearly half of these deaths are preventable. In Bangladesh, a woman has 1 in 250 chance of dying a maternal death, mainly in the rural areas. In the United States, maternal deaths more than doubled between 2000 and 2014.

But the good news is that up to 98% of these deaths are preventable. That is why we have recently reinforced our agreement with Every Mother Counts to support this non profit organization´s education movement-building work and its grants programme in both countries for the next three years. The main objective of this project is to stop preventable maternal deaths and injuries from ocurring and strengthen the health workforce and systems in those countries, through partnerships on the ground with  community-based organizations.

Since May 2015, we supported the provision of prenatal care to more than 55,000 women and from now to 2019 we expect to impact 30,000 people as well as amplify Every Mother Counts’ message to meaningfully bring this issue to the mainstream conversation and mobilize more and more supporters to action.

Another aim of this mutual cooperation is to reduce premature births and underweight babies, as well as to reduce issues resulting from obesity by offering better nutritional options.
