We stand against racism

Letter from Pablo Isla

To the Inditex Family,

Like so many of us, over the past several weeks I have watched the images from the United States with shock and great sadness. Across all of our brands at Inditex we are a family, and my heart goes out to those of you in the United States – especially our Black employees – who I know are deeply hurting right now. Inditex stands in solidarity with the Black community and mourns the tragic deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and the so many others who senselessly lost their lives before them. Black lives matter.

We have always been a company that firmly believes in the equality of all people. This simple statement means that we stand against racism in all forms, no matter where it occurs in the world. As a global company and part of the fashion community, we recognize that we have an opportunity to speak out and take a stand against hate and discrimination. This aligns with our core values, which are based in diversity, equality, and a fundamental respect for human rights.

Speaking out and condemning racial injustice is the first step of many that we will take as a company to ensure we do our part in creating a better future. At this moment, we are pausing as a company to listen to our employees and customers to determine how best we can move forward as an organization more fully focused on diversity and inclusion. While it will take time to figure out specific actions, we are absolutely committed to real, meaningful measures that change the way we work, treat one another and serve our customers.

This process will begin by listening and learning as we work to identify our own voice in the fight against racism. To do so will require feedback, both internally and externally, and the time and perspective to do it right. We will be looking to many of you to help us throughout this process. We also recognize that education is a key component of any long-lasting change, and to this end, we are committed to increasing the educational and training programs available to all of our teams. Finally, we know that we have the ability to effect change through financial means. We are making economic donations to organizations actively fighting against racism, discrimination and injustice, particularly within Black communities.

This will be a long-term journey, and the change will begin at the top. I am personally deeply committed to this process, and I hope you will join me in helping us make a real change at Inditex and in the world around us for years to come.

Thank you,
