SUPPORTING COMMUNITIES

Our investment in social programmes has directly benefited over 1.1 million people during the last year.

At Inditex we believe it is our duty to contribute to the development of society by participating voluntarily in community initiatives to which we can add value by virtue of our business activities. To this end, beyond the economic impact of our business operations, we have a community investment model that is articulated primarily around education programmes, the creation of community well-being and humanitarian aid. We earmarked €40 million to this effort in 2016, up 14% from 2015.

The initiatives pursued under the scope of our community investment effort are aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Most particularly, with five of them: decent work and economic growth; reduced inequalities; responsible consumption and production; quality education; and good health and well-being. Specifically, 76% of our community investments go to programmes which prioritise one or other of these SDGs.

We are aware that would not be efficient to promote initiatives of this kind on our own. This is why we collaborate with 367 non-profit entities to tackle shared projects that they spearhead on the ground. The idea is to work together to further society's development. Last year we cooperated on 519 projects that directly benefitted over one million people.

We measure our impact

To evaluate our contribution to community well-being, at Inditex we use the LBG Model, widely acknowledged around the world, to measure the impact of each of our programmes in terms of their impact depth and type.

In relation to the depth of our impact, we measure whether our projects have connected with, improved or transformed their beneficiaries. As for the type of impact, we evaluate whether they have generated a positive change in their behaviour, contributed to the development of new skills or improved beneficiaries' quality of life.
